Will history view the present as the "Golden Age of the Geeks/Dorks/Nerds"?

When I was growing up geeks/dorks/nerds led quiet and invisible lives. We were ignored by the mainstream. Jocks and other popular guys got the girls and all the attention. No one was interested in the things we were interested in (comic books, sci-fi, computers).

Now it's different. Hollywood is putting out movies that once only appealed to us dorks (Star Wars, Star Trek, Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Fantastic Four etc) but are now popular with everyone.

Everybody seems to be into computers now. Maybe not as a subject into itself but if you like music then you surely know about MP3s and stuff. And not to mention other stuff like email and instant messages now. Suddenly, a nerdy interest like computers (TRS-80 days) is now considered cool.

One of the richest man in the world is a dork like us.

Computer related jobs is generally a high earning career field. And because of this, girls are starting to notice us.

We have TV networks devoted to PCs, gaming (GT4) and Science Fiction. And more girls are taking notice of us (because girls like being in front of the TV and getting attention -- having TV networks means we might provide them an opportunity to be in front of the TV and get notice -- hence we are attracting more attention from girls).

And because of this, we can now pay and hire good looking girls to be around us. Look at all the female hosts in GT4 -- they are attractive females! And what about the booth babes that we hire in our convention? They are hot! Have you noticed that a lot of females in sci-fi show are attractive?

Is there a better time to be a geek/dork/nerd? Is this not the Golden Age of Geeks/Dorks/Nerds?

Girls will never be after the dorks. As with every other style, the girls will be after the genetically blessed, physically fit, good looking stud who's an imposter, pretending to be in that style.

In other words, if surfing is in style, the women will want Brad Pitt holding a surfboard. If geekiness is in style, women will be after Brad Pitt wearing a pocket protector. If metrosexuality is in style, women will want Bred Pitt wearing a pink shirt.

They will never want the lanky doofus surfer, even if he's the best. They will never want the dorky computer genius, even if he's Bill Gates. They will never want an effeminate metrosexual, even if he's a fashion designer.

It's just like what guys want. When they want someone to be a good bikini babe in a movie, they get Jessica Alba to wear a bikini. If they want a brilliant scientist, they get Jessica Alba to wear a lab coat and glasses.

Styles change, but hot is always hot. Ugly is always ugly, regardless of the style.

Its all about confidence.

You have more confidence, because it's in to be technical. Girls see this confidence and are more attracted to it.
