will higher refresh rate affect a monitor's lifespan?

Currently I am using an Envision 780 from staples.

The resolution I'm running is 1152 X 864 @ 70 Hz. The maximum is 100 Hz at this resolution.

I'm wondering if I were to adjust the refresh frequency to 100 Hz, would it affect the monitor negatively? i.e. more heat generated, shorter lifespan of monitor, picture distortion, etc.

I run my Hitachi at 100Hz for that refresh rate, been running it for over a year now.
If it is in the Specs for the monitor it should be OK. They seldom push the limits on monitors as they are made to go even higher.
 
So long as it is withing the specified operating frequencies for the monitor it will not unduly affect the life span.
It may produce incrementally more heat but that is a very minor effect.
 
i called a tech at viewsonic and he said it does shorten it the higher you run it. as long as it is in spec it should last for a long time, much longer than id want to use it for.
 
Most things that shorten the life span of a computer part really dont' even matter. I mean this stuff (for the most part) will physically work for a LONG time (my aunt still has a 286 going strong. I've still got a few Commodore 64's in my closet). Most of them will work for longer than you'll be using them anyways, regardless of if the lifespan is shortened.
