Will HDMI replace DVI for video cards and monitors?

I want to replace my 5 year old Dell Ultrasharp 18.1" lcd monitor. There is nothing wrong with it other than the fact it is not a widescreen. I buy a new monitor every 5-6 years and want it to be as future-proof as possible. Should I invest in a monitor that has HDMI? If so, any recommendations? Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. HDMI is electronically compatible with DVI, so if HDMI does take over, a simple converter cable ( http://www.monoprice.com/produ...id=2505&seq=1&format=2 ) would be all that you would need. I would be more concerned about displayport taking over, but seeing as how DVI took over from VGA a long time ago and the vast majority of new monitors/video cards still support it it really shouldn't mater.
