will HDCP be required in the future?

since my friend is about to get an HDTV, I'm wondering if he really must get one with DVI-HDCP or if Component will be future-proof. what will happen if hollywood requires hdcp content protection to watch stuff in the future? will he have any option besides trashing his old HDTV?
I'm wondering because it looks like getting a set with DVI-HDCP will cost about an extra $500.
 
get one for the better video qualty that DVI supposedly provides. This is questionable though. I went to a store today and DVI didn't look any sharper to my eyes. Some swear by it though. Either way don't take the chance of getting downrezzed in the future, get something with DVI.
