Will HD-DVD "open up" their format?

It would be really really nice to be able to "legally" backup my HD-DVD movies in case my HD-DVD player goes bad or the media goes bad.

One can always wish I suppose, I would suspect the studios wouldn't like it very much.

Wired has an article about how to convert HD-DVD discs to Blu-Ray.

http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Co...our_HD_DVDs_to_Blu-Ray

Nice article man!

How about the other way around??? Would be great to have capability to keep watching movies on my HDDVD player...

Right, because it's cheaper to *find* and buy an HD DVD burner, HD DVD-R discs, a plethora of software, the Blu-ray discs themselves, and the time to not only transcode the video, but *re-encode* them all to fit HD DVD's limited capacity & bit-rate. Oh, then there's BD+ standing in your way. Good luck with that.

Buy a Blu-ray player and be done with it.

Did I mention HD DVD-Rs are limited to single sided 15gb?
