Will HD 5770 run on 400w power supply?

I wanted to double check that this video card would have enough power from my current 400W power supply.

My PC:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2330 GHz
Nvidia GeForce GT120
640 GB Hard Drive
400 Watt Power Supply
20" Monitor

On the advice given by other members here, I went ahead and purchased the Radeon HD 5770 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-476-_-Product

I believe the card requires a 450W power supply? Is this correct?

Will my 400W power supply be enough? Or do I need to upgrade?

Thanks.

I guess the real question is...what 400w power supply do you have currently? The quality of it may determine how well your system will run with a 5770 installed. A decent quality 400w PSU should have no problem running your system with a 5770. I was using a Antec Earthwatts 380w with a 5770 and a Athlon II X3 for a while in a gaming HTPC and had no issues. But if the 400w you have is some generic cheap PSU that came with a case, then you may have some issues.

Even a crap 400w power supply will run a 5770.

Maybe, maybe not. Some crap 400W power supplies are only capable of putting out 200-250W or so. I'm talking about bargain bin units like Powmax, Coolmax, Diablotek, Apevia (Aspire), etc.

As long as you have a PSU from a decently well known brand (Corsair, Antec, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, OCZ, BFG, Sparkle, FPS Group, Enermax, XFX, Xigmatek, Silverstone, etc.) you should be ok. There are a few bad apples in the bunch, of course, but if you give us the make / model of your PSU, we can tell you whether or not it's decent.

My system struggles to break 250w from the wall and that's with an HD6850 and Q8300 @ 3GHz and a bunch of HDDs.
His system will probably be more like 200w from the wall, or something under 200w actual, so even a cheap 400w should manage 50% load.

Agreed. My system can't pass 220watts from the wall at gaming load. Even if he has a shit supply that can only do 200 actual watts, he'll be fine.

Yeah I mean it's a gateway pre-build desktop. Model is LX6810.

So, probably not the highest quality power supply in there, but Im hoping the 400W supply will be enough to run the 5770 when I install it later today.
