I have a user who wants to be able to admin some machines on one private network from his PC that is connected to a different LAN. The LAN he wants to connect to has all unpatched computers with no Antivirus software or anything, while the other LAN is connected to the Internet through a firewall and is also connected to a WAN. Will two nics in his computer connect one network to the other? I other words, will the LAN with unpatched computers become vulnerable?

Yes and no.

Obviously, his computer will become a threat of sorts. If it became compromised by a trojan horse, than serious damage could be done.

As long as routing isn't enbabled between the two NICs, and it isn't by default on a Windows OS, then those machines on the private network aren't vulnerable to those on the internet/lan network. Relatively speaking, anyway.

To be safe, he should disable his internet/lan NIC before enabling the private net NIC. Then disable the private net NIC before re-enabling the internet/lan NIC.

To be ultrasafe, don't do it.
