Will GTAV play decently on my PC?

I got out of upgrading my PC years ago but I wanna play GTAV on my PC.

Currently its an e8600 proc with 8gb ram and an AMD 5770. I dont have funds to replace a mobo and proc but maybe a video card.

Would upgrading the 5770 be worthwhile?

No way. GTA4 was very CPU bound. When it came out originally, practically no one could play it. It didn't really run that great until years later when sandy bridge came out. We don't know anything about the PC version yet, but if it is anything like GTA4 then you'll need some power to push it.

The CPU we can't tell if it will be enough, but the GPU is a bit weak anyways.
You will probably have to upgrade it.

But wait until the game is released, and then you will be able to make a good decision.

Gta4 came out for the ps3 that had radically different hardware from the pc,GtaV is re written from the ground up for the ps4 that has the exact same hardware as the pc.
So as long as they don't mess up big time(farcry 4) or make it run really bad out of spite or whatever (watch dogs) then it will run just fine even on current dual cores, the e8600 is ancient though.

Wait til it comes out and decide then what to do.

I'd be skeptical that it will run well on dual cores. If I had to put money on it, I'd say the game is going to eat up hardware on decent settings. What they do with the low settings is up in the air. 1080p on the minimum graphical settings may be doable, but I doubt it will be enjoyable.

Anyway, we will know soon enough.

Well the newest battlefield 4(and that's one demanding game) throws out 120fps on an old i3-2100 so if the game is well made, witch should be a given after they took so long to do a rewrite from the ps3 version,it should run at around 60fps even with a pentium.

Don't confuse cpu with vga, graphics needs will be crazy high.

I'm not... I'm looking at Rockstar's last attempt at bringing GTA to PC and going off of that. I think that's a better representation than an AAA FPS game tuned for a smooth multiplayer experience on the widest possible configuration of hardware. The AI alone in GTA5 probably uses more compute than all of BF.

Poor OP will actually listen to these posts and attempt to use a Core2Duo platform to run GTA5....

I hope he posts his results back here for teh lulz....

The e8600 runs at 3.33ghz, I ran DAO across 3 24" screens at max settings and it was buttery smooth. GTA 4 was a horrendous piece of crap that didnt run well on any PC at the time. I think my current PC will play GTA5 at least decently. If not, i'll get a PS4 as it will be a helluva lot cheaper than a new proc, mobo, memory and GPU.

I'll let yall know once I get it.

BF4 isn't demanding. All of the recent games on GameGPU top out with a 5960X, if they had a 5930K I'm certain it would be barely behind it. Dual cores are dead, GTA 4 was one of the early games where a quad was a good idea, I wouldn't be surprised if this uses a hexa core properly. OP, heavily bottlenecked by that CPU (assuming the game even starts).

For me, on G860 dual core cpu, GTA 4 didn't run too well. And it stuttered independently from fps. Even with the latest patch. Otherwise most other games I played run well on my cpu. Except Far Cry 4 ofc. That thing doesn't even run on dual cores.. :D

Well that was a port from a risc/arm(or whatever it was) machine to pc x86 and if you look at gta4 now with the latest patch it runs very well even on low end.

But as I said, let it come out first, before advising on big hardware changes.

Very little is known about GTA V on the PC, odds are that settings, and hence performance will scale across a wide range of hardware, but my gut tells me you're going to struggle with that video card even on the very lowest settings/resolution.

It might be best to wait until some idea of performance has been measured in the game closer to or after release, that'll give you the best indicator for an upgrade path.

In general OP, threads like this are an utter joke to make. You're asking people to take a stab in the dark.
Might as well be asking us where we think the stock market will be 3 months from now.

No one really knows yet since the game isn't out and no benchmark results have been posted; it's all speculation. If I had to guess, I'd say your processor was a significant bottleneck. But according to this rumor, GTA V is being ported by the people who did Max Payne 3, which ran pretty well (as compared to GTA IV which was terribly optimized at launch), so who knows? Regardless, it's safe to say that your processor will not run as well as a quadcore running at a higher frequency, so upgrading may be worth it anyway if it's in your budget.

I would say wait until the game comes out and check out the benchmarks. if it doesnt run well you can always upgrade then. sure it may prevent you from playing for a few days but you have a bit more time to save for a better gpu and maybe used prices will even go down a bit more.

Max Payne 3 is not an open world city filled with NPCs and cars and physics and you in the middle with an AK and RPG . . . . . . a 2007 box won't run it.

Even if it is highly optimized I doubt GTA5 run on that CPU. Upgrading the GPU will do nothing to help that bottleneck. If you could slap a quad core on there you'll be cooking at 720p/medium settings.

Perfect description to describe with this won't work. But well, people ask a question then will ignore all the stated facts possible.
What can we do?
