Will GTA5 be better on NextGen?

I'm a PC Gamer but I'll most likely be getting a console this generation. I never had a PS2 or PS3 nor an XBOX or 360. I've always been strictly PC.

That said, I actually have some desire to play GTA5, and don't necessarily want to wait for a PC port to come around (nor wonder how good of a port it will be).

So my thoughts are to just wait until I get a PS4, then get GTA5.

Does anybody have any details about the GTA5 on PS4? (or xbox for that matter).

Is it simply going to be the PS3 version on a PS4 disc? Will it have better graphics?

There are no details, but I'd imagine it won't have a lot of differences. Maybe some better textures (which really show the current gen console's age). Other than that, the game looks and plays pretty good. They might bump the native resolution up.

And real optimization probably won't help, and since the game was designed with the current gen in mind, it wouldn't do too much. I would love at least 2x AA of any kind though.

No, there's been no mention anywhere of it getting released for the new systems. Just people wishing. It might eventually make it to PC but that's it. Anybody that says it's getting released for the new consoles is just wishing.

GTAV was years in the making, and porting it to PS4/XB1 is just a couple hundred extra million they can get for basically very little effort (and the free dev experience working with the new APIs).

Usually the answer to everything is : is it financially wise?

In the case of GTAV on PS4/XB1, it's a no brainer. Of course, they will keep that tight as a drum until the last minute, because they WANT as many people as possible to buy it twice.

<--- not a GTA player since GTA2.

Yeah, after all San Andreas never got ported to 360 or PS3 despite coming out the same year as 360. Seems to me Rockstar doesnt like to spend a lot of time doing that kind of work.

Um what? San Andreas was ported to the 360 and PS3, although it was in 2008 and XBL / PSN only.

There are lines in the code that mention the PS4 codename and PC. Also saw a report of one guy who works for Rockstar Toranto being caught by friends on steam playing the dev build.

Who knows, both of the above could be made up.

I think the game looking like it does now, but with a consistent say 50Hz framerate, would be good enough to make me want it for PS4.

I think you are a little bit confused. The framerate is measured in frames per second, FPS. WHile Hz is a measurement of the refresh rate of the display. NTSC standard is 60hz. You can have 30fps @ 60hz too. I believe 50Hz which you mentioned is the PAL standard refresh rate.

I agree that I should have said FPS instead of Hz; it's just that to me as an engineer I'm used to thinking about Hz as a generic unit for how many times an arbitrary thing happens per second. But yeah, I could've been clearer. 🙂

I think a steady 50 FPS would make the game even more enjoyable.

Ahh...cycles yes. I understand. 50fps sure, but 60 would be best. I believe this runs at 30 but dips to the 20s in some occasions.

Rock star made their cash already off this game. If anything they should start the next game for next gen now and hopefully release it within 2-3 years. Its doubtful but whatever.

Unlike the pc version which is not announced but we have found mentions of it in pieces of gta related code, there is nothing to tie a ps4 port to the game yet.

Nope.. My best is it wont exist...

Seems great chance it won't be on next gen, so now or never.

Just dropping in to say, yeah this was obvious just like I said above 😛

Patting yourself on the back IRL, and perhaps even eating a delicious cookie, wouldn't have been enough?

Sometimes it's fun to remind people of the obvious 🙂 I could also bump the threads where people insisted that kinect would never be separate from Xbox one, or that no price cuts of any kind would happen before 2015, etc. I'll let those be though.

The answers to all of these things can always be found in money. Follow the money and you have your answers. GTA v exists on 8g because it's easy profit. Price cuts/specials were predictable for either the ps4 or xb1 due to the inevitable fact that one would fall behind in sales and momentum, and keeping that up is critical for market share and inertia.

If somebody bumps a dead thread for nothing more than a virtual "I told you so", their life is probably so meaningless that it's the only joy they can get out of it. I'd just let him roll with it... it's probably all he's got, man.
