Will GPU prices be dropping more anytime soon?

I'm looking to upgrade to a GTX 460, and right now with discounts and rebates they can be found for about $160.

Is it a good idea to buy one now or will prices drop even more come Christmas and New Years?

I'm not desperate to get one today but I can wait a month or two if it will save me some money.

Well if you believe rumours, then in the new year, NV will have a GTX560 out which may drop prices some more, so it might be worth waiting, but that might just replace the GTX470 and be more than the GTX460, so prices might not drop all that much. No one really knows where it will come though.

Most upcoming releases are aimed at the high end, above the GTX460 price point, so they probably won't put much downward pressure on the GTX460.

what are your system specs? what games do you play? what upcoming games are you interested in? what resolution is your monitor?

@happy: do you really think that gtx 460 - 768 will drop "like a rock" because a card that is 2+ times as expensive launches? if he answers my questions we'll be better able to help the OP.

GPU prices always drop faster than any other PC component IME.

If you can wait, there are rumors of a GTX 560, plus AMD is coming out with a high end part that is rumored to be as fast as a GTX 480. If AMD also comes out with a 6950 for $200, my guess is that if you overclock it you could reach GTX 480 speeds out of it as well.

I'd say you should let the dust settle. These have been interesting times in the GPU world. Even if you wait a week you would be doing yourself a favor.

Thats not gonna happen. 300$ mabe

They're already getting pretty low. I don't think the GTX 560 will have much of an impact on the 460, but no on really knows for sure what the plan is.

Plus, isn't the 460 already the king of price-to-performance for the current selection of cards? If the price drops like a rock...

I would think after the holidays, they are going to clear inventory, just like they did with the gtx470 for 200$ to make room for the gtx570.

Wait till the gtx560 comes next month. Gtx460 prices are gonna drop like a rock.

I think GTX560 will be a replacement for a GTX470 not 460. NV will likely drop GTX460 another $10-20 but GTX560 would compete with HD6870 at $200-240. Therefore, there isn't much room for GTX460 prices to fall imo.

This is the one I was looking at. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130565

I don't mind paying $160 for it, but I also don't mind waiting a month or so if I can save another $20 or so.

I'm currently using a 9800GTX which still works fine for most games but I would like to upgrade sometime soon.

if the 9800gtx works fine then don't waste your money.

that card you linked is $189 AR. plus, it's a TR version which only comes with a 2 yr warranty. if you go with evga get an AR version which has their vaunted lifetime warranty. my tr gtx 460 was also not offered step-up, don't know if that's all tr models or not however.

gtx 460 - 768 has been as low as $115 AR rebate recently. highly unlikely that will change in the next few months, but it sounds like you have time to wait. gtx 460 1gb might drop a bit with upcoming releases and better availability of 68x0, but it's hard to say right now b/c they've already cut the s**t out of prices on those.

If I'm reading it right in my cart, it shows the price at 179.99 after -$30 instant off. Then it comes with a $20 mail in rebate which would bring the final price to 159.99

If thats what you see hit the buy button. Thats a great deal.

160$ for a Evga gtx 460 1gb, mabe they are clearing inventory now. 😱

It's a good deal, but is it an "inventory-clearing" sale? A bit more than a month back I got my 460s for $177 each *after* tax, so it wasn't that much more expensive back then.
