Will Gmail ever offer IMAP?

I'm guessing, no? Because that would probably make too many users stop using their web service.

Such a shame, I'm getting tired of downloading and storing so many messages locally.

Not sure if that was sarcasm or not, but I really like their web interface. I kind of hope they would make an e-mail client built around that interface.

wouldn't be surprised if they do; i'm guessing they would bundle it into either their OS (duh, they're definitely going to make one sooner or later) or into the Google Pack.

I agree, the standard Outlook interface is far better than Gmail's web interface. If I had to pick any web interface it'd be Yahoo's.

You're not agreeing.

I just like Outlook because I don't have to unnecessarily check my email. I keep Outlook minimized to the tray and if there is a new message it lets me know. I almost never use the Gmail web interface, although IMAP would be nice.

I use FastMail -- supports, POP, IMAP, and their own web client. I can't find any mail host I like better than them. I use the web interface when I'm using dialup or on a non-private computer, and Thunderbird when I'm on a private broadband connection.

Gmail Notifier

Checks your mail for you. 😀

Also, i don't think I'd use IMAP even if it was available. I just like the web interface and ease of use.

Oops, you're right, my mistake, no sarcasm means he actually likes the interface.

Well, it's not bad by any means, but it's still awkward compared to normal windows and folder structures. In Outlook, I have a separate folder structure for sent items from received items, and that includes folders AND subfolders. The same just can't be done with one level of labels in Gmail.
