Sadly, that doesn't help...many of the recent "comedians just aren't at all funny...unless you're some brain-dead millennial who hasn't been exposed to actual funny people, just stupid cartoons and anime.![]()
Many of the oldschool comedians weren't really that funny either. You just tend to remember the best parts, and forget the 95% of their material that was simply bad or reruns of their old material (or copies of that of other comedians). It's hard to think of truly new material, and while the old ones often copied material from older or lesser known comedians too nowadays everything can be found on youtube and it's therefor not possible to take credit for a joke that isn't yours anymore.
The three Stooges copied from older silent movie stars as well, and weren't that amazingly funny. Some people just prefer simple visual humor, just like some prefer bland 'Oh look at me, I'm a <insert ethnic group> and I'm using words and manners from that group, how funny is that!' type of 'humor' (Seinfeld for example).
It all depends on my mood and state what humor I like best. When I'm very tired simple humor is fine, otherwise I tend to prefer humor that requires a bit of thought. Although there's a few sketches that can stay funny no matter how I feel.
