Will FDISK /MBR rebuilt the boot record (and boot menu) for Win2k?

If I ever need to get my Win98SE boot record back for any reason I just use fdisk /mbr and it rebuilds it for me to boot to win98se.
Since Win98 is dumb and it installs it's boot record and system files to the first usable partition it sees it will overwrite my win2k boot record if I reinstall it...

Assuming win2k is still on there, how do I reset the boot loader to be win2k's menu thingy wihtout reinstalling 2k ?

Edit: sorry about the multitude of threads i've started lately..I'm going to go tri-boot Win98/Win2k/Linux this weekend, and I'm trying to work out all the details first....

Oh if Win2k is installed already Win98SE wont' trash the bootloader ?

Hmm I always overwrites my Linux bootloader when i install Win98...i guess Win98 likes Win2k better than linux though...
thanks.

i wouldnt trust that last bit of advice. in my experience, if you install 98 after NT it does hose the NT boot loader. to get it back, you can do a repair, or try using bootpart (i dont know that bootpart works with NT5...maybe only 4)

I've installed Win95 and Win98 after Win2000, and they do trash the boot loader. You can delay it by turning on the 'Virus Protection' in the BIOS that prevents writes to the master boot record. On my second machine I hit 'any key' :) every time it boots to deny Windows 98's attempts at overwriting the MBR. Funny thing is it keeps trying until it makes it in there.. you'd think you could override it. Once it does happen though (which is inevitable) just boot from your Windows 2000 CD and do a repair to the booting ability, I forget what's it called. Something to do with boot environment, there's two options and I use both and it's fine after a reboot.

Damn stupid Win98
It's so crappy it needs a re-install like every 2 months.
Maybe if I install absolutely nothing to win98 except games, and don't even do anydownloading with it maybe I won't have to reinstall every 3 days just to keep it running smoothly...

I hope win2k loves me...tommorow is the big day...never had windows NT on my computer before. It's kind of exciting in that computer geek sort of way :D:|:(:Q:);):p:cool::disgust::frown::confused:
