Like, need to get one before august next year. Anything I should keep an eye out for in 08? Penryn? Nehalem (is that even 08?)?
 
Nehalem is 2h '08.

32nm nehalem or whatever AMD has out by then.

DDR3 should be reasonable by then as well.

Its just too far into the future to make any real predictions.
 
45nm nehalem is slated for 2h 08, but realistically it is going to get "delayed" until amd gives penryn a run for its money. I think Q1 09 at earliest for nehalem, leaving you with a choice of penryn or phenom/shanghai (also slated for 2h 08 so good luck).
