most likely therell be a bios option to dissable ecc but im not sure about any performance gains.
why buy ecc if your mobo dont support anyways?

it's slightly faster to run without ecc.
if you sure your next mb will support ecc, go ahead to buy ecc memory now, price difference is so small.

so if i do stick ecc in a motherboard that doesn't support ecc, it will still run slower even though it will have no ecc benefits?

just need a little more confirmation. :)

It should act like regular non-ECC memory. I have done this in several boards without any problems, although the manufacturers do not recommend it. Since it's not running the ECC calculation, there is no performance penalty.
