Will Doom 3 be SMP?

Well, at another forum at storagereview.com someone said it will have SMP capabilities so people with multiple processors will benefit. If this is true, those with Hyper Threading will benefit too?

Probably not for those of us with 1.33 GHz processor(s)...I only play at 800x600 anyway so it may be CPU limited.

hah, maybe maybe not. my memory of playing games on old systems was of video cards still limiting me as i lowered resolution to absurd levels in vain attempts to gain playability😉

Unless your video card is absolutely archaic, lower resolutions like 640x480 will demonstrate your CPU's limits and not your video card's. Read some of Anand's reviews for CPU's and he explains it. I have a 9700 Pro, and I only play at 800x600 because that is what my 33" monitor supports. 🙂

UT2k3 gets a decent boost from SMP machines because it uses ogg vorbis audio and putting the audio decoding in another thread saves a decent amount of CPU cycles for the rendering. I think it also puts the bot A/I in another thread, which can be a hog if you have a lot of bots.

I would assume Doom3 would atleast put the audio decoding in another thread.
