Will demand on PS3s and Wii be great enough...

to sell on eBay and make a profit? I'm debating pre-ordering one of/both PS3 and Wii for the purpose of selling them on eBay immediately after launch. I know PS3 stock is going to be extremely limited, but are there enough people willing to pay more than MSRP to get their hands on one? And with Nintendo having such high supply numbers (target is 4 million sold by end of year), will Wii even sell out at all?

I don't mind taking the risk with Wii, because if I don't sell it I'll just keep it and play it, but PS3 is another thing - it's not something I really want, I just want to make a quick profit. I don't want to be stuck with a $600 machine that no one wants :(

when is the wii and ps3 expected to release.

if it's around christmas season, whether tehre is supply or not you'll still make a profit on ebay

Do you remember what happened when X360 was launched? Imagine that x10 for PS3. People on this forum bitch about how weak PS3 is, but it's a trick they're using to throw everybody off so they can buy up all the PS3 and put them on eBay for $$$$$.

I'm sure you can sell a PS3 for a nice profit, the problem is actually getting one. Not sure about the Wii though, you can always return it to the store.

I believe PS3 comes out Nov. 17, and Wii comes out Nov. 19. So that leaves a considerable margin between launch dates and christmas, but who knows... if they're anything like the XB360 launch, eBay profit will last for a while.

PS3, yes...Wii, meh.

edit: Wii demand will be high, but supply is dramatically higher than the PS3.

I hope you buy a PS3 and can't sell it. I hate people that buy limited items for the sole purpose of resale.

So you're against making a quick buck?

I understand where you're coming from, because by doing what I plan to do, I'm taking away supply from someone who wants the system. But, people who are willing to pay such high prices (à la xb360 - who pays $1300+ for a gaming console...?) won't care. Besides, if someone doesn't want to pay more than MSRP for a console, they can just wait. It's not like it's going to make their heart wither away or anything.

I didn't say I'm against it. I said I hate people that do it.

If some schmuck is dumb enough to drop a lot more than retail on it, then so be it.

yeah, you could get a 360 for retail (or at least a lame package deal for more $$) if you really put the effort into it when they were being sold on Ebay for twice the MSRP. There will always be lazy people with more money than they know what to do with, so I'd imagine you could sell either one for profit even if the systems are in stock.
