Will DDR2 fit in a DDR slot?

Will it? My friend just bought a new 3200 939 setup and with it he mistakenly bought (he's a newb) a 1GB stick of DDR2 pc4200. Basically this kid finds the most expensive part available and buys that, figuring it's the best. Like he bought a Seasonic 600w, because it was the most expensive, although that happens to be probably one of the best PSU's out there.

Anyways he can't get the DDR2 to fit in the mobo, so I guessing that DDR2 can't run at DDR1.

Wow, your friend sounds pretty stupid. (sorry) I think he should have stuck with a dell. DDR2 is totally different than DDR, it is not compatible. Do not try to put it into the DDR slot. He's probably going to have to pay a restocking fee, but they should take it back. I think that you should pick out the ram for him next time. Don't let him buy ecc or somthing like that by mistake.

Ummm A64 3200+ is hardly the most expensively, neither is the Seasonic S12. Some people just don't do research before they buy. Tell him to return/exchange it.

Haha. Don't kill his friend too badly.
If he was going for the most expensive stuff, he's be poking at 4GB sticks of PC2100 on an AlphaServer.
