Will Colin Powell ever run for presidency?

I've seen his biography on CNN 2 weeks ago, and they said that in 98, he announced that he wasn't ready yet to run for presidency, even though many people were supporting him.

After seeing how he handles the State Department, I think he would indeed be a great President. He is very firm (he is the only one that has the guts to have a divergent opinion with Bush and Rumsfeld) and he has a lot, I mean a LOT of life experience. Also, he's a 4 star general, and the head of American diplomacy. His Curriculum Vitae extends in every domain!

Maybe in 2008 (2004 is probably too soon), he'll be the Republican candidate.

I read a story a few years ago that left me with the impression his wife would not permit him to run. Cannot really blame her.

Don't know. There was a time when I would have voted for him. Now, though, he strikes me as too much of a dove.

I would vote for him if he decides to tun for the presidency.

However, I get the feeling that he really don't want to be a career politician.

I think he would make a good candidate, and it depends on who he would be running against, but I would probably vote for him. Would he be the first black president? Forgive my ignorance.

America is not ready for a Black president. The chance that he get nominated is nil, and he will never get enought votes to win if nominated.

Yup, he will its just a matter of time. He is a strong person and has clear goals and ideals so he would do very well. I would like to see him run.

Because bigotry and discrimination still is running rampage through out America. The most recently event (9/11) shown that the system & people tolerate, and some can go as far as condone racial profiling.

You have not discussed his stance on the issues but because he's black, you'd vote for him?

Where does he stand on the issues? That is how I determine where my vote goes....

While it is true his race will affect some people I think his lifetime achievements will make up for it.

I think after he saw all the dirty ads in the last few campaigns he will not run. Why expose your family to all that crap.

Again, see my response above. I don't feel that Colin Powell has enough of a back bone to run our country. Granted, Bush has his shortcomings, but he's got more balls than Powell does.

I'm guilty of not following politics closely. The little I heard & read about him is that he sounds to be the best person for the job. But, the racial thing is just too strong especially during this post 9/11 era.

I have to agree you that the fame/responsibility as a President in America is second to mud throwing, therefore subjecting your family to it isn?t worth it.

According to Bob Woodward in Bush at War it was not only a matter of his wife not wanting him to run, she flat out told him she'd leave him if he did.

If Bush get's re-elected it would not be surprising if Powell resigned.

Honestly, looking and powell, and the situation he is in as the Secretary of State, you got to shake your head. He is a puppet nowadays. If you have read his book, you can see that the policies in Iraq, North Korea and Afghanistan don't seem to fall in line with his values.

To the public he is a talking head, but you can rest assure he is probably the reason we didn't jump into iraq prematurely.

He is not the president. He can't do everything he wants, he still has to follow what he's told to do. Can't really avoid it.
