Will coffee beans expire?

I got a bag of Dunkin' Donut coffee beans in its original paper bag, which I got it from some online survey/freebies 2-3 years ago. Will coffee beans expire?

BTW, what's the good xmas present for 10 and 13 years old boys?

Yes, the oils go rancid. Just toss 'em it's not worth it.

Store coffee in a non-porous opaque container at room temperature for no more than 6 months.

As for a good gift for 10-13 year old kids, I don't think you can go wrong w/ GBA games

totally. hardcore coffee people buy em green and roast when as they need em for freshness. the rest of us have either vacumn seal and freeze em or do as best as we can. light/time/heat all evil. coffees like good for a month max

hehe... good one. Then next year I don't have to give them any presents since they were poison to dead by the coffee beans.

To clarify, I don't mean rancid as in poisonous. You could probably still drink it, but it wouldn't taste very good. The oils have decomposed.

They go stale about a week after they are roasted.
At 2 weeks they are undrinkable.
I always roast at home once a week.

So, how long will a can of coffee last if you keep it in the freezer? I don't drink the stuff, but I need to keep it around for visitors who do.

buy a nice burr grinder and ur set.

For one, pre ground coffee is Robusto.
That is a different and inferior spices of coffee.

And it was only Dunkin Donuts junk anyways. I wouldn't drink it. Some of the rancid oils as mentioned before can really upset your stomach.

How long does it take to roast beans and how much do you roast at a time? A week's worth? Do you put the roasted beans in the fridge afterwards or room temp?

My favorite coffee of all time has to be the Jamaican Blue Mountain that my friend brings back from Jamaica. Man thats some amazing coffee. I also have a friend in Hawaii that has sent me Kona also. Both were preroasted whole beans. Is the effort of ordering green beans of that quality worth the difference thanfor preroasted? I don't think I ever had fresh roasted beans that I can recall. I may have in some upscale restaurants and not known they were fresh roasted.

make sure to scrub your coffee maker parts with detergent. rancid oil can't be washed away with just water. it'll taint your coffee instead

They don't seem to store well. I keep my beans in the fridge..helps a little.

I have been buying from Tom since before he had a web page.
He is straight up.
I roast a few days worth of coffee at a time, about 6 oz. of green.
I do not use the fridge. I store them at room temp, but they are only there for a few days.

JBM is way over rated.
I have some right now in my house.
It is Mavis Bank, they ship it in wooden barrels from Jamacia.

I like Estate Kenyas and Costa Ricans.
Note, Kenya AA is NOT an Estate Kenyan. It is coffee from many inferiour Kenyan plantations mixed together. An estate Kenyan is from one farm and the quality reflects upon that farms reputation, so it will be vastly superiours to the bulk stuff sold as Kenya AA.
AA means the bean size.
AA is the largest.
Bean size has nothing to do with quality.

See, the smaller labels I would not know about since I only see mass consumer. I go into many coffee bean shops but nothing as discriminating as this. I don't want to pay $20/lbs for JBM if there is something for $5 that I like better.

I was looking at some roasters yesterday. I think I am going to order one and maybe 6 or so different 2lbs bags of stuff you and the guy on the site recommends. See what I like and what regions. I really enjoy reading this guys reviews of the coffee. They are the most educated, descriptive, and complete reviews of coffee I have ever seen.

If you are at a "specialty" coffee shop, and want a good coffee, go with the Costa Rican.
It will most liekly be the BEST tasting coffee in the store.
