I have kinda asked this question and the answer seemed to be yes but i have had a good look around the bios and windows and i can't find any options to have both running at the same time.

The system is my brother in laws with the following spec

Mobo- H55M-GE
Cpu-I3 540
GPU-GT220

Just want to know if the onboard graphics can be turned on and run a seperate screen while the GT220 is active.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Should be possible, but not sure. Best way to find out would be to just plugin a monitor and give a go. Just make sure Drivers are installed and that Windows sees both Video Devices.

BIOS usually has an Enable/Disable option for Onboard Video, make sure to Enable. Other than that there will be Init Display first(or something similar) for which Video port to use on Boot.

That said, doesn't the 220 have the capability to run 2 Monitors?

Might depend on the mobo, but I believe the default behavior is to disable the onboard GPU with there is a discrete GPU inserted into the PCI-E slot.

I gave it a go, sorry should have been more specific... the onboard ports dont send a signal, i am assuming they are disabled when a discrete GPU is installed but the system was built by a local company so I will check that all the drivers are there as he may have left them out because it was delivered with the gt220 already fitted. He actually wants to run 3 monitors well 1 monitor 1 tv and a projector but even though the tv and projector just need to show the same thing the splitter he bought wont work for the projector if the tv is plugged in. It says format not supported or something similar so i assume the resolution is incompatible and it is picking the tv up first.
