I want to return a router someone gave me for christmas for either a refund or exchange, but I don't have the receipt. The product is still sealed, NIB. What are the chances they at least let me exchange it (despite their policy of requiring a receipt)? Anyone have experience? I don't want to schlep there for no reason.

Isn't there saying that you do not need a receipt, they can look it up by your drivers liscence, or name

No history return. It is a change request that will be included in the build for the next release.

They look up the transaction by the phone number you gave them at checkout.

EDIT: When did they start requiring receipts? That was their big ad campaign last year, the no-hassle returns.

Circuit City has never asked me for a phone number at checkout.

For any exchange or refund, we need the original receipt or a record of the purchase in our system, and the product must be in its original condition, including the box, UPC bar code, packaging, and all accessories.

You can always try going to the store and explain to them that you got it as a gift and do not have the receipt and the reason for returning it is because you didn't need it/it was the wrong one/etc...

I realize their official policy is to require a receipt, but I'm guessing they may have some discretion if you show up in the store, especially right after Christmas. however I don't want to travel 30 mins if someone here knows definitevely that they will laugh at me and tell me to sod off.
