will changing nameservers in godaddy affect my current email?

Hi,

I'm about to change the nameserver on godaddy to zonedit.com's nameserver so i can direct my domain to a static IP address.

I wish to keep my current hosting for the mail, but will changing the nameservers on godaddy affect me receiving the mail?

also, am i going about this correctly? how come i cant just use godaddy's name server to point to my IP ?

I believe you need to set up the MX (Mail Exchange) settings in zoneedit for this to work. Not that familiar with setting up separate mail servers through zoneedit, but I believe it can be done.
