Will Centrino's work well in desktops?

As the title says, will they be like the P4M's?

I'm just wondering as that 1mb l2 cache sure looks yummy

Does anyone know?

I'm sure the next desktop P4 core should be able to handily dispose of a Centrino chip. (1MB of L2 would be nice to see on desktop chips outside the server/Apple architechture.)

Some sites are saying that there will be P4's with 1 MB of cache for the consumer in the 4th quarter. Right now the new P4 w/ HT, 800 Mhz bus, .09 micron technology looks pretty nice, should be out soon.

The 800 MHz FSB, 16K L1, 512K L2 cache, HT enabled chips are .13u Northwoods. The Prescott which will be 800 MHz FSB, 32K L1, 1 Meg L2, .09u will be socket 478 to start, then move to Socket-T.

Beat me to the punch! Intel's roadmaps are showing the L2 caches going from 1MB to 2MB to 3MB up to 9MB in the next couple of years. GHz isn't going to be the ABSOLUTE king of speed any more when you can pack that many instructions into memory!

No, Centrino's are derived from the P3 and use a different core logic chipset... a chipset that will only be found in mobile PC's.

Aren't Centrino's a whole new CPU designed from the ground up, and not really comparable to the the P3?

I was under the impression that Banias chips were pin compatible with the P4 bus. Doesn't this imply that while the core logic is different, everything up to the decode stages would be similar to the P4? Or am I assuming too much from too little...?

Centrino is specifically for the mobile market from what I understood. No sense in wanting it for desktop unless Intel might want to compete with VIA's low power/heat CPUs, lol.
