There is a thread on this that is several months (or weeks) old with a few hundred replies... it's either in Off Topic or Networking maybe even both.

If they institute that, I know some of the smaller companies will say NO BANDWIDTH LIMITATIONS ON OUR SERVICE and they will get all the business, and the other companies will realize that they're losing out of a lot of money.

Even if that is the case, it's pretty far off for ATTBI. I can't say exactly why, but there are a few things in the works that will make our subscribers fairly happy if they so choose the new options soon to be available. :)

...and they fairly contradict that article.

I see Charter communications on that list .. if they try it I am goign to go bezerk and get DSL.
I use the broadband connection so I can telecommute (both my brother and I) and also for accessing our stuff. Not much is actually downloaded from peer to peer.. but when your on the net 24/7 you naturally do take up a lot of bandwidht per day.

I just hope charter doesnt do it.. I was about to shift to the higher bandwidth 2 mb dn 1 mb up..now I woudltn do that if they tried that stunt on us. By the way charter never told us about the higher bandwidth stuff when i signed on, only later i found out from a guy who works for charter.

Charter already has tiered pricing in my area.....

Service plans (select one)

128Kb Down / 128Kb Up Bronze

1.5Mb Down / 384Kb up Charter Pipeline Service Level 3, Professional Installation

1Mb Down / 128Kb Up Charter Pipeline Service Level 2, Professional Installation

128Kb Down / 128 Kb Up - Self Install Charter Pipeline data over cable service, self-installation, no contract

1Mb Down / 128Kb Up - Self Install Charter Pipeline Service Level 2, Self-Installation

1.5 MB down / 384K up - self-install Charter Pipeline Service Level 3, Self-Installation

Of course it is only for speed at this time, but I have friends in the company who say that bandwidth meters are being tested and will be coming soon. Fortunately I am the only one on my hub in my neighborhood and get awesome speeds, and don't see them taking that away from me if I am the only one in my area that have the service.

First of all Charter service is 'OK' at best. They do have 3 diff. speeds to choose from and the 1.5upload is very expensive. I have it and it ends up being around $65/month just for internet.

I wonder how Microsoft/Sony will react to this. This means that $1 billion that microsoft is going to invest in XBOX online gaming site is down the drain isn't it? Don't the online games take-up lots of bandwidth as well ? So ID Software and other companies depending on online gaming might go out of business too. As far as Sony is concerned they are robbing peter to pay paul. They take money away from their gaming console to pay their record company.

If they do decide to act like a bunch of morons then I will discontinue my Cable TV service as well. I bet they haven't counted on lashback on their other services. In fact people with ATT can also take their phone services to somebody else.

Whether you pay more per month or not for your current 1.5/256 I wouldn't know... some cities get their bills raised for whatever reason. I'm not talking about your rate going up.

1.5 upload for $65 is actually a pretty damn good price...

That's what i thought at first but that speed is not gauranteed. Upload speed is even worse.
