Will cable modem increase my herds output?

I am getting a cable modem hook up today,and I'm curious if it will have any real impact on my herds productivity. I suspect not,but I was wondering what you folks think.

At any rate,I'm finally leaving the world of 'Dial up and wait" to "always on connectivity" and I'm excited about that.😉
 
It won't increase your productivity, but should let you flush/fetch faster, and there's always the fact that stats will come up faster too. 😎

Yup, DSL coming my way in January. 😀
 
You'll love it. I've had my DSL line for over a year now, and I would go hungry in order to keep it 😉.
 
You might be able to crack faster if you are moving away from a winmodem and on to Cable..
Thats the only way I see it going faster.

Way ahead of ya. I have had a home network of 7 computers behind a linux server for months now,and all boxes are cracking RC5.😉 I'm about to set up a bunch of junk boxes laying around the shop to contribute to SETI and the other projects.

I just wish I knew more about my linux server. I didn't set it up,and now I'm scrambling to insure I set it up properly for the cable modem.

I chose Cable over Satellite for that reason. I'm too far away for DSL and the service for DSL here sucks anyways.

Paul Allen owns Charter pipeline and he will be getting my internet dollars now. I will remind him of that if his service wains.😉

Yep,only its been doing RC5 only. I want to do more,and I keep getting these old P1's and 486 trade outs laying around,so time to put them to work.
 
With cable, I don't worry as much about buffer updates, although my keyrate actually decreases at times due to increased on-line gaming. :Q
 
doah....i saw S@H, and didn't realize that you are NOW willing to do it. I thought you did S@H before....and the reason why I found that so shocking is because each WU is about 350k 🙂

Oh ,good to know. Then a cable modem is a benifit for cracking code. My upload speed will only be 128 though. but it sure beats a 33 upload on a dial up!
 
May I reccomend trying to download a Linux distro. Not only is it fun, but it tests your bandwidth.😉

I tested on a netscape download. Very weak 43kps on a 24 meg download from twocows. I was told there are registry hacks that can speed things up. I'm intersted. Also in all sources to test the speed. I'm happt to have more bandwidth for sure,and when I reconnected to Dnet,it loaded up many more work units and blazingly fast!

I'm sooo glad to be upgraded. But it is not the best.500K down and 128K up.

No - the size of the pipe doesn't have anything to do with the capacity of the processor....

 
Tripleshot - Twocows is always overloaded and slow (same with Walnut Creek), so a download from there isn't really indicative of your potential. Where I've always gotten some of the best download speeds (especially when using mirrors) are from some of the big universities, so in addition to some tweek sites mentioned in other posts, try downloading something from a school... 🙂
 
You 'll find that your cracking output might actually decrease due to the fact that you've been using your system more possibly playing online games.
