Will C2D support 3 gts450s for folding?

I have a C2D E8400 with Asus extreme 680i motherboard which has 3 PCI3 slots.

They are X16, X16, and X8.

I was planning to buy some EVGA GTS450s with their great 85dollars after a rebate.

I am assuming that it will work...

I have a 850watt Corsair TX850 powersupply.
Thank you for your responses.

Remember, you only get a rebate on one (or maybe 2) of those cards. I hate that. (all mine I only get one rebate)

If you run windows XP, and 182.06 or 258.(something) you will get zero cpu usage, so you are fine. And that PSU is most likely good. I was folding with 3 9800 GT's and a 700 watt OCZ. That Corsair is most likely better quality.

The E8400 should have enough gut to provide whatever the video cards need. Nvidia cards use much less CPU overhead than ATI cards.

Given this, why don't you think about getting one GTS 450 and one GTX 460? You could get one EVGA GTX 460 superclocked without a rebate for the price of two GTS 450s after the rebate-you-can't-get. Though it's only about 80% as fast as two GTS 450s in theory, if Folding work continues like it has been with 6811 WUs, it seems like the GTX 460 may be worth more than two GTS 450s. Plus you'd have a slot left over.

I am doing this for the school. As they want the cheapest option with the most PPD per watt output.

As for myself, I am waiting for a tasty GTX570, which I will treat myself nicely for christmas... 😀

And that's what I gave you, assuming you can't get three rebates and don't need to drive more than four monitors. Also, the 450's price on Newegg seems to keep going up. It's now $99 AR!

3x GTX 450:
$99+$130+$130 = $359
3x106W = 318W (an underestimate)
3x192 cores = 576 cores
576 cores/318W = 1.8 cores/Watt

1GTX450 + 1 GTX460:
$99+$170 = $269
106W+150W = 256W (an underestimate)
192 cores + 336 cores * 765MHz/822MHz = 504 cores-equivalent
504/256 = 2.0 cores/Watt
