Will boxes of matchbox cars & hotwheels from the 80s ever be valuable?

I have several boxes in my cellar of them. I'm thinking of getting rid of them, if they're worthless. I'd like to think if I ever had kids they'd play with them someday, but I don't know if kids do that anymore...
