Business trip coming up... I get into LAX on a Monday afternoon and will be staying in Redondo Beach.

Working Tues, Wed, then 1/2 day Thurs... Wife is flying in late Wed night...

Any ideas on what to do Thurs afternoon/night and Friday? Looking for interesting places to eat, and things to do... We had a good time at Universal Studios last time we did this and will probably see Warner Bros and take in a Jimmy Kimmel show (easier to get tickets)... Thinking Knott's Berry Farm or Walt Disney World, etc... Any other ideas?

Redondo, Hermosa, and Manhattan are all beautiful beach cities. Redondo usually is a little more low brow while Hermosa has a younger population due to all the bars on the pier and Manhattan is a bit higher end. Definitely just walk the strand and grab food and a drink anywhere for a good time.

Redondo has a decent performing arts center - they may be having an event, so does Long beach, which isn't too far south. There is the Queen Mary and a couple other touristy things down in Long Beach at the port as well. Santa Monica and Venice Beach are standard tourist locations if you've never been and might be worth checking out. If you have a car and time you can drive up highway one along malibu for some beautiful scenery. There's some good hiking up in the Santa Monica mountains as well, just north of Malibu. Griffith Observatory is a standard tourist location, as is the Hollywood sign and the Getty Museum. LACMA is downtown and is a pretty good art museum as well.

There's lots to do, just tell us what your interests are.

Disney World is a terrible idea while in LA. Disneyland though, sure.

Thanks for info! Both the wife and I a familiar with Disney but only as little kids too little to remember... IT should be fun to go again after 35+ years.

We like a variety of things so anything is fair game. We're not terribly adventurous in the risking life and limb sort of things though... We're thinking about taking in a show or two while there... It looks like Jimmy Kimmel may be the only real option... Perhaps the Price is Right...

As for food, we are open minded... I'd like to have some "real" middle eastern food from Irag, Iran, or Afghanistan. It been a very long time since I've had any...

Yes, seeing the Hollywood Letters does interest us... How close can one get? Does it cost anything?

We've also thought about seeing some movie sets, etc... Enjoyed Universal Studios very much a few years ago... Not sure WB interests us though... Didn't really relate to many of the shows/movie sets they have to view....

The tar pits are cool. The art museum is right next door.

If you find the food you're looking for, post back here. We're always on the look out for good Middle-eastern and Persian food.

Lots of great middle eastern in Hollywood/Glendale/north Hollywood

Skaf's, elena's, hayat's kitchen, joe's falafel (get the shwarma, not the falafel), to name a few.

Re: letters

You can hike there but it's way easier to take a car or tour to a vantage point...

The best view of the sign is from the Griffith Park Observatory
