thinking about 90 nm vs nvidia's 110 nm that req. more power

I have 380 Antec PSU and not sure it can take 7800gt with 3 HDDs

Well, I don't know specs on as-yet unannounced products, but the trend has been to ratchet up clocks on smaller processes. When you do more work, it takes more power.

The 7800GT is a pretty power thrifty chip, when you consider you're feeding 20 hungry pipes. It eats less than a 6800 Ultra.

That being said, there are various power calculators on the web. Hard drives aren't that bad, they typically only suck 3-5 watts during operation (after spinup). The Antec is a quality PSU with I'm guessing 18 amps on the 12v rail, which should be enough to feed your 7800GT.

I believe the requirement for a 7800GT is 'quality 350 watt power supply', a requirement your 380 antec should satisfy.

Erm. Nice calculator, but it simply outputs the total wattage used, without splitting it up by what's required on each rail. Their rec for a 24A on the 12V rail is certainly a great rule of thumb for modern boxes. But an amd64 machine can get away with a bit less.

Dang, I'm trying to find one I used before that did just that, and even looked up matching models by spec. The link on that page to a PSU guide is worth looking at though.

Yes find that one and post it here. I will recommend it if you do :)
