And what will happen will electrons fly away from the atom's center when they are too distant or will the electric charge still be strong enough to hold the atoms together?

No one is confident of what the universe will look like in the far future but one theory states that dark energy will overwhelm all other forces including the strong nuclear force and the electromagnetic force. If this is true, atoms themselves will disintegrate into smaller components.

The metric expansion of space does not appear to occur where there is more than a critical binding force present.

For example, the space within one cluster of galaxies and its neighboring cluster of galaxies does not appear to be expanding, presumably because of the gravitational force between them. Only the huge expanses of space between filaments of superclusters of galaxies appears to be expanding, presumably because the distances are so extreme that there is no significant gravitational force between them.
