I just got a new CPU that had arctic silver pre-applied (nice touch) however the AC has run over onto the chip just a bit as well. Will this be a problem, or should I try and clean it up?

Thanks.

You should definately clean it up. AS is conductive.. you don't want it in places where it shouldn't be.

I don't think AS is electrically conductive so it shouldn't do any harm.

unless you douze your processor in it then no...

From AS's website:

<< Negligible electrical conductivity.
Arctic Silver II was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity. It is only electrically conductive in a thin layer under extreme compression.

(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver II should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. The compound is slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridged two close-proximity electrical paths.)

Well, I guess better safe than sorry. I'll spend some time cleaning it up so that it's only on the core.

Thanks all
