Will Apple introduce the first Nehalem machines?

Will Intel do what they did with Core Duo and let Apple be the first to come out with Nehalem?

I hope not.

I doubt it unless Apple intends to start selling >2 sockets servers this year.

I fully expect the first Nehalems to actually ship to customers in any reasonable volume will be server chips. Just like Harpertown versus Yorkfield.

It's a roll-out model that hasn't hurt Intel so far and they aren't known to fix things that are not broken.

Now come next year when Havendale and Lynfield roll out...those could very well be first on Apple machines before the rest of the big guys (DELL, HP, etc).

Apple does ship 2 socket servers - the Xserve and the Mac Pro is a dual socket system using server xeons and a server chipset (thus fb-dimms).

I'd say they'll either be the first or among the first to ship the mobile and server versions of the chip. Apple doesn't use desktop chips in any model (iMac, Mac Mini use mobile chips) so they don't come into play. Apple pays a premium for these chips by way of not taking co-marketing dollars (thus no Intel jingle in Mac ads). Intel also likes putting their chips in Apple products because Apple is better at marketing than Intel is, and Apple actually makes a bigger deal out of offering Intel's latest and greatest than Dell, HP or the rest.

I think that depends. If intel decides to roll out the server versions first it might very well be Dell, HP and so on that launches the platform first, before apple. IIRC Apple likes to introduce new technolog in their workstation class machines, i.e the Mac Pro and so on.

guarentee'd apple will get the first motevina cpu's. aka yorkies for there macbook airs.

and they will get neha on there high end G stations.
