Will any TV series be more intense then Band of Brothers?

Man.. I have been watching this for the first time and all I have to say is DAMN!

This is the best thing ever on TV. I know I am a few years behind everyone but still, nothing has ever compared to this show!

I bought it on DVD and it is amazing. I am blown away by it. I dont know if any mini-series can compare. But they are making one about the Pacific Theater.

Yeah, my uncle ordered the DVD box last Friday. Shipped out and will be here this week.

The Pacific Theater one, if done as well, will be just as good, but, not as original...

Just got the first three discs today from Netflix. Just finished up watching the third disc and holy crap what an amazingly great series. I know it's not 100% factual to what happened, but seeing what all the soldiers went through makes me respect them even more. Soon as I have the cash, I'm buying the box set.

Read the book. It's pretty damn close.

24 is pretty intense & addictive, too.

24 is completely contrived tho

who cares?

knowing that people actually went through all that is much more intense than a made-up action show with little comraderie.

I really like 24, too. It's probably my favorite TV series. I have to wait for it to come out on DVD though... I don't think I'd be able to survive if I could only watch 1 show a week :)

that just means you're a tool for truth rather than imagination in your preferred form of media.

edit: in reference to the unneeded critism on 24.

notice how i also introduced comraderie. yes, character development is a good part of any media experience, and seeing how guys operate, succeed, and fail under pressure is far more entertaining than the cool-under-fire jack bauer.

its hardly unneeded. the show is not up to BoB caliber, pure and simple.

I thought the series was awful, I could not stay interested at all. I think schwimmer took the cake, horrible casting on that one, and the office space guy didn't really fit in either, just my opinion but documentaries like Shoah and Hearts and Minds are much better movies.

Well, it's just a matter of opinion. I really liked Band of Brothers, too.

Anyways, Band of Brothers is a semi-epic high-budget miniseries ($100 million?) and 24 is just a lower-budget ($40 million?) TV series that is the opposite of an epic :)

Are you being serious or just being sarcastic to me?

Anywho, if it's the earlier..

It is about a company of paratroopers during d-day forward during WWII directed by Stephen Speilburg and has the same calibur effects and story as Saving Private Ryan.

It is essentially a high quality movie broken down into 10 one hour parts. Absolutely nothing cheap about it. It is a made for TV series that is better then most movies in the theater.

Every time I watch an episode I wonder how something this good could have ever been made for tv.

i wonder why something like that isnt made for tv more often.

edit: and to someone above, 40 mil isnt really a low-budget show. maybe for fox it is (isnt that who is showing it) but its not low-budget.

Was BoB a decent show? Sure.. I'm just not all for the male-bonding, buddies in war type shows..I mean, if I wanted homosexual inneundo then I'd watch Friends or something... But if you're wondering if a show that's more intense will ever be made, check out this pitch: The show would be a reality show/game show... First you'd have your standard round of quizz show questions- life-lines, etc. would apply. Once you get past that stage you then have to screw Angelina Jolie before you win your one million dollar prize... Now, I don't think that screwing Ms. Jolie is much of a challange but that's precisely the point: married men and guys in relationships would have an excuse to screw the former Ms. Thorton on live television.. "Honey, I only did it for the money!"... Also, it could get very interesting if women played the game as well.. Now that would be some freaking "Must See TV."

If you liked Band of Brothers, check out the movie Das Boot. It was first made as a mini-series, and then the footage was made into the now famous movie. Don't know if there is a version of the mini-series available for NSTC format though :(

I have the directors cut of Das Boot.. but yeah, now that you mention it, if they would clean up the picture and release it in a boxed set of the original TV series (subtitles as the dubbing stinks) it would be right up there with Band of Brothers in terms of quality.

It's a shame they never did that and doubt they ever will.
