Will any P2 support Celerons?

I am under the impression that ANY p2 slot 1 mobo can run with a celeron. The only difference being that the CPUID will be wrong.

Or will the mobo say "I am confused by this CPUID" and stop?

I am looking for cheap LX based mobos, and all the auctions say "supports" p2, but never mention celeron. I was just looking for some general info.

Thanks

I never heard of a motherboard that accepts a Pentium II, but not a Celeron. They both run at 66Mhz bus. The only problem I see is how fast the CPU can be. I have an Abit LM6 and my latest BIOS only supports up to a Celeron 466.

actually, some of the older MB will need to have their BIOS upgraded in order to take the newer CPUs. I had a P2L97 (LX) that needs to upgrade the BIOS otherwise it'll not boot with my Celeron 366.
