Will any matched pair of RAM work in dual channel mode?

I was wondering if there is a certian characteristic of RAM that makes it operate in dual-channel or not. What I mean is, can you take any matched pair of ram such as 2x512mb or 2x1gb put it in a dual channel capable mobo and have it run in dual channel? Or is there something "special" about dual-channel memory that makes it different from other memory?

Thanks.

For the most part yes, 2 Identical sticks will work in dual channel mode, whether bought in a dual channel package or not. However you cant issue a blanket statement in this matter. Some motherboards/chipsets are finicky, some ram is finicky, you never know where incompatibilities may ensue.

Thanks for the info. I got bid happy on eBay and wanted to make sure I wasn't messing up. In the past I've always bought my RAM in kits so I never really thought too much about it until now.
