If you want Flash, you have to wait for a hardware accelerated Android tablet. No two ways about it.

2-hour daily commute? Damn.

Have you considered a Nintendo DS? There are plenty of games she might like.

But, if you're set on a tablet, just suck it up and get an iPad. It will be more than a year before something of comparable quality is in the market.

She actually has a DS but she's a bit on gadget overload - droid, NDS, zune hd.. Lots to carry around, so she usually leaves her nds home.

I'm going to grudgingly save for the iPad. The adam doesn't seem like it'll see the light of day anytime soon, and lite gaming seems pretty fun on the iPad

From what I've heard, the Samsung Galaxy S should have the best graphical acceleration of any phone currently available. Unfortunately it seems Android has some other limitations that prevent the same level of gaming as you get on WebOS or iPhone. I heard it has something to do with not being able to run apps from the SD card, which limits how big anything can be, but it has to go deeper than that too.

And I don't even like Apple or the iPad, but if I had two hours on a bus/train every day, I'd totally get one. It seems like exactly what the iPad was made for.

apps2sd via custom ROMs pretty much negate that disadvantage. (Assuming you have a nice class 6 micro-sd...I would assume a standard class 2 might hamper some things, even if apps2sd is enabled) Once Froyo shows up on ASOP, cyanogen should have something nice out.

I'm itching for a Galaxy S. Been hanging onto my G1 waiting for a worthy upgrade. Custom ROMS have made this phone much more tolerable than it was with stock doughnut.

Yes but the problem is you're not going to have a whole lot of game developers making games specifically for those few people who have rooted Android and are using Apps2SD and can afford the space. Until this can be done officially, it's not going to help.

True.

On the bright side, I believe apps2sd is native in Froyo. I can't say for certain, as I don't have a froyo ROM that's functional enough to test on a g1

LOL @ people who have nothing better to waste their time on than phone games.

I love killing time playing Madden 10 on my iphone when waiting in line or whatever. No different than wasting your time making your post.
