Will an x2 555 bottleneck a 6850?

I've got an x2 555 @ 3.8ghz(just the two cores), will it be a bottleneck for a 6850?

Right now I have a 320mb 8800GTS and I'm looking for a single card upgrade to last me for a while. Currently running a 1680x1050 monitor.

to some degree yes (depends on the game), but you should still see huge performance gains, so go for it 🙂

As biostud mentioned, it absolutely depends on the game. What games are you playing or looking to play? Either way, you'll get more performance than with your current card, but if you're looking for ultimate bang-for-the-buck, cheaper cards might be a better match for you, for instance, this GTX460: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121390

I have the same cpu and am getting the 6850 purely for the eyefinity and a smidge for the longevity. I was fortunate though to unlock it to a quad core 🙂

It's probably going to be a bottleneck in games that run on more than 2 cores, but that should be the case with all dual cores. Otherwise, no, a 3.8 Ghz PIIx2 is gonna treat you just fine.

No, it will not be a bottleneck in any practical way for 99.9% of games. Only the few games that "require" a quad may give you issues.

That cpu will have no problems pushing that video card. Especially at high resolutions. Your CPU is perfectly fine.

Thanks for all the responses. Right now I'm mostly running WOW, CoH, and Bad Company 2. Tried unlocking my cpu but was unsuccessful. I might get an x4 or x6 later on but the board I have only supports up to 95w cpus so I just need a card that will work with what I have.

coming from that 8800gts 320mb your upgrade will be massive. an X4 would certainly help though in many newer games since your gpu will no longer be a limitation.
