I'm a complete hardware n00b. The topic title question says it all... will an Opteron run Windows 2000? I'm not interested in why I should run other OSes, so please don't answer along those lines.

I'm asking because I'm not familiar with of the capatibility issues that may or may not be involved in an old 32-bit OS with a new 64-bit CPU. If I knew how to answer "why not," then I wouldn't have bothered asking. /sigh

An A64 will run everything from the first windows made. (assuming the windows has drivers to support the cpu.)
A64 is compatible with all modes of 16bit, 32bit and 64bit.

the a64 is 64-bit AND 32-bit. it being 64-bit capable has nothing to do wtih windows 32-bit incompatibility.
