Will an old flash work on a D40?

I have a VERY old flash... I'm going to say circa 1980.

Do you think it would it work on my D40? I don't know the brand/model off the top of my head but I can check later tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT: Just put some fresh batteries in it and tested it out. It works. I took a few shots with it just to see if it fired and still worked, and there were no problems. I have to meter it manually and the battery door is broken, but both of those things are no big deal and can be easily fixed. Some pictures of the flash (sorry, crappy cell phone pics):

flash - front
flash - back
broken battery door

The flash is a Pentax AF-200S in case anyone is interested.

flash trigger voltages have changed over the years. theoretically you can blow something up matching the wrong things.
