Will an OEM LGA775 HSF mount on a LGA 1150 board

Putting togher and HTPC build using a 35watt Haswell i3 (ebay purchase, no HSF included) and I have the cooler that came with my old Q6600 that I haven't used ever. It's cooling capacity should be more than up to the task but will it mount to an LGA 1150 board?

If not, what would be quieter, the stock intel HSF or something similar, or one of the smaller Corsair water cooling units?

Only if it's an Asrock board, that is drilled for both 1156/1155/1150 holes, and 775 holes.

No, 775 won't fit on 1150. I'm running stock hsf on a 54w i3 and it can get noisy when the cpu is loaded. I don't know how quiet those water coolers are but the zalman cnps8900 cooler i tried on an 88w i7 seems quieter than the stock hsf on the i3.

It actually does. I don't know about the custom-made cooler brands, but the Intel original fan/heatsinks provided in retail box with processor together are compatible and interchangeable for LGA775, LGA1156, LGA1155, and LGA1150.

No, they are most certainly NOT. Only 1156, 1155, and 1150 are interchangable. 775 is a different spacing.

Edit: If this were not true, then why would ASRock include a "Combo Cooler Option" on some of their boards, that has two seperate sets of holes drilled, slightly offset?

Well I just verified that an OEM LGA 775 HSF will NOT fit a LGA 1150 board. Think I'll probably go with an H80
