Will an MRI machine yank your teeth out if you have fillings ?

"Because the strong magnets can displace or disrupt the action of implanted metallic objects, people with cardiac pacemakers cannot be scanned and should not enter the MRI scan area. MRI also should not be used for most people with metallic objects in their bodies, such as artificial joints, inner ear (cochlear) implants, brain aneurysm clips, some artificial heart valves, and metallic foreign bodies in the eye or other body areas. MRI is usually not recommended for acute trauma situations because traction and life support equipment cannot enter the scanner area, and because of the long scan times."

no the mri machine won't because the fillings aren't ferromagnetic.
i highly doubt mercury was EVER used in fillings as it is a VERY poisonous substance.
dentists still use a mercury amalgam for fillings because it's both cheap and safe. the amount of mercury in your fillings is less than the amount that you'd get from eating bottom-feeding fish.

Yeah... it was used. Back in the old days of not knowing about heavy metal poisoning. One of my teachers back in elementary school told me that when he was young, they'd let kids play with mercury in science class... hold it in their hands etc...
it's still being used. there's currently no conclusive evidence linking dental amalgam to anything other than mild hypersensitivity reactions.
