I have:

Athlon 64 3000+ Venice
1 GB Corsair Value Select DDR400 RAM Dual Channel
MSI RS480M2-IL ATI RS480/SB400 Mobo
Radeon Xpress 200 IGP

And I can run it at the default (lowest except for texture which is at Medium, I think) with an OK framerate. It's not what I would call smooth, but it's still playable. I don't know how to check the actualy FPS though so I can't tell you that. I also don't know how the Radeon Xpress 200 compares with an FX5200.

Yeah, I was limited on money when I built it, but I've been saving up, so I'll get a new one soon.

I know what you mean. I can go through all of my specs, then when I come to my video it completely kills it. :)

renderer.drawfps 1 is the frame rate command i play with a x300 at 800X600 everything on low and i get like 40-70 frames

When I do the renderer.drawfps 1 thing, it gives me: number/number. I'm pretty sure that's vertical refresh rate/horizontal refresh rate, right? In any case, the first number is vertical refresh rate, and that's what we care about. For that, on my Radeon Xpress 200 IGP, at the default settings (low), I get 15-20 FPS while playing, and 30-40 FPS when laying on the ground dead, which doesn't really matter...

Anyway, I thought the game was playable before I tested it, and now that I see it's only 15-20 FPS, I don't see why everyone thinks that's unplayable. I mean, it's PLAYABLE, but you just have to expect what you're going to get before you play it. I mean, I know the limits of my IGP, and I wasn't expecting 60+ FPS, so I'm fine with it. Anyway, I still don't know how this compares to an FX 5200, so...

Mighty powerfull system you have there to have a 5200 in it. If it wasnt an AMD, i would ask if you bought from dell.

you have to turn almost everything to "LOWEST"

oh... you haven't seen anything yet if you're in solo mode. I've tried an FX5500 on UT2004 multiplayer and the framerates are horrible, even on low. Mainstream right now is Geforce FX 5700 full/Radeon 9600 XT.
Pretty soon, the FX class and 9K class are gonna be on the lowend list, pretty soon.

so will it run bf2?

I have ran it with the demo.... I have a 5200 agp 4x personal cinema
it was ok... a bit lag tho... what is your comp setup?

My 64mb 5200 FX runs BF2 fine. Smooth as silk. I run on 800x600 with all settings on low and it still looks good.

I hope they fix the bugs though. I unloaded an entire rifle clip at point blank range and the guy didn't die.

Yeah my roommate has a Athalon 2500+ with 5200 and 512ram and gets very playable frame rates albeit with all seetings to low, still doesn't look toooo bad. Big difference though between that and a 6800 gt(my rig).

I have been running a P4 2.6C with a 128MB FX5200 for the last few days, it does run BF2 at ABSOLUTE MINIMUM settings(800X600, minimum draw distance everything lowest or off) and it runs a bit below 30fps. Playable for those that absolutely can't afford any better, but not enjoyable for someone used to 60+fps in the game.

I just burned out my 6600gt, and pluged in an old fx5200 while waiting for my new card. I was playing UT2004 multiplayer last night, with everything set on high, and it was just fine. I have no idea how many fps I'm getting, but it feels and looks the same as my 6600gt.

YES!!!!!

I have:

Athlon 64 2800+
1 GB Corsair Value Select DDR400 RAM Dual Channel
ECS ??? Mobo
Radeon 9800 Pro

I built my first rig couple months ago to play BF2. I ran out of $$$ when it comes to a video card so I recycled my old FX5200 PCI card. Contrary to BF2 "minimum requirement", I played and kicked ass in BF2. Yeah, I had to set it low and at 1024x768, but it sure didn't stop me staying top 3 most of the time (1st place many times). I guess the AMD 64 and 1 GB of Ram make a difference.

While my newer 9800 Pro makes the game looks much nicer at high setting, it didn't really improve my score much. Look for me as "HRGuy".

Yes, it will play it. Contrary to what most think, BF2 can be tweaked down graphically and can still be played, but what you can't change is how much of an insufferable CPU and RAM hog that game is. Your biggest issue will be the swapping that takes place, even with 1 gb of RAM. Oh, and, good piece of advice, delete all the videos except the menus before you load it up, it will save tons of waiting for those damn unskippable EA/DiCE splash screens.
