Will an Alpha PAL8942 fit on the abit BG7

Hi! It fits. I have a BG7 and a Alpha 8942. It's a little tricky to get on, when I placed the Alpha on my PIV the screws didn't touch the lugs that were screwed into the motherboard. So I had to carefully hold the Alpha in place while I pressed the screw down to the lug. The Alpha uses springs to tighten the pressure on the CPU. So you have to get one corner started and start the opposite corner so that there will be equal pressure on the chip. Then start another corner and then it's opposite. Continue to tighten the screws a little at a time until you can't turn the screws anymore. It made me sweat a little and I don't won't to have to take it off any time soon.

I chose the Enermax 80mm adjustable for noise control. I have it running at about 3000rpm, according to MBM. It's near silent but can be cranked up to 3600rpm, according to MBM.

The BG7, at least mine and others, temperature reading is high. I believe mine is off 8C. My idle temp is 43C with a 2.26B at stock. It should be around 35C or so I think. Cranking the Enermax to wide open doesn't do much good so I don't know if a more powerful fan would be worth the added noise.

Good luck and happy computing,

Mike
