Will an 800mhz fsb motherboard run with an 400mhz fsb processor?

Just wonder if my system, based on a motherboard with an fsb of 800mhz, will work normally if I plug in a P4 processor that has an fsb of 400mhz instead of the 800mhz P4 that is in use today (I want to have a known good spare cpu).

Will the motherboard just lower its fsb to run on the cpu's fsb or what is likely to happen?
Will I be able to use the computer at all?
