With Trump choosing so many military generals and military leaders to head his administration, I see only military action as their preferred method for addressing world conflict.
Typically, military leaders refuse the path of negotiation, preferring solely military action.
This happened during JFK's administration, where the military leaders talked Kennedy into invading Cuba.
And that advice failed miserably.
Kennedy never again placed blind trust in the military generals after that Cuba fiasco.

Then, during the Cuban missile crisis, JFK preferred following the negotiation route while military leaders insisted Kennedy take the military route. Military leaders tried to convince Kennedy that the missile buildup in Cuba and the Soviets ability to react against the US was minimal.
We later learned that was not at all the case.
Had the US taken military action against the missile buildup in Cuba, the Soviets with their Cuba based missiles were more than capable of striking within much of US territory.
And those Soviet missiles based in Cuba were in fact nuclear ICBM missiles.

Had Kennedy put his full trust in the US military during the Cuban Crisis, we would have invaded Cuba and the Soviets would have retaliated with launching their Cuban based ICBM's against US targets.
And few of us would be here today, most likely.

Now we have Donald Trump entrusting American security interest solely on the military, and the military as our sole means for response. Trump rather hand national security entirely over to the generals instead of exploring the negotiation path.
And that spells bad news for American teens ripe for a national military draft.
When that happens, will American mothers and fathers then regret their vote for Donald Trump?
Or will parents sit by while their sons and daughters are drafted and sent over to fight and die in foreign lands?

The danger here is with Donald Trump and his administration full of retired generals and military personnel.
And Trump believes in them and trusts in them whole heartedly.
Should the Soviets or others test a president Donald Trump, which absolutely will happen regardless of what Donald might think, then would America mothers and fathers go along with a national draft?
Not to mention the American draft-able youth?
Someone must fight in all those potential Trump wars.
Unlike the voices in Trump's head, wars will not fight themselves. Someone has to do all that killing and dying.

And once the shit hits the fan, will president Donald Trump choose the negotiation route? Or hand this entirely over to the military to handle?
Does Trump even possess the intelligence, the ability, or the patience for negotiation?
Presidents negotiate. At least the smart ones do.
However ex-generals do not.
We are about to enter a government solely ran by retired military generals and retired military personnel.
And by a president that frankly doesn't seem to give a damn.

Why would we need a peacetime draft? We get plenty of volunteers and would get more by a lowering of requirements or an upping of incentives. Quite frankly the topic title doesn't really match up with your post.
