Im looking to build my girlfriend a pc and wanted to get something that will be upgradeable and last her a while. Im thinking of going with the A64 3500 which is socket 939. If i get a socket 939 board will I have a good upgrade path?

Thanks,
Rob

Man, what kind of girlfriend could take advantage of a 3500+ that wasn't using it for work?

Are you sure you aren't building her something a little 'over the top'?

IIRC, I read somewhere that the dual core K8 CPUs slated for release next year may require another socket - with more pins, which could very well be true.

Apart from that I hope that AMD do choose to stick with S939 for sometime, which they do tend to do thus far. Well, S754/940 was a bit of a mess, but at least they are continuing to make CPUs for them. I don't really forsee that with current cores, AMD (or Intel for that matter) will need to change sockets anytime soon though.

There's little you can do but hope when it comes to sockets.
