The answer is "probably."

What's the board and original CPU?

Did you check the Hardware Compatibility List on the board manufacturer's web site?

What CPU are you replacing with the Athlon x2 BE? What vintage is it? There's a pretty good chance it won't be an upgrade.

No.

Modern processors have the memory controller built in. An AM2+ processor does not have a DDR3 memory controller, so it will not work in an AM3+ board.

Depends on the exact processor. Some Phenom IIs(and derivatives which are under the Athlon brand) have both a DDR2 and DDR3 memory controller, like my 1090T.

If the OP would post a CPU-Z screenshot we would know for sure if he's using a K10 core, which only supports DDR2, or a K10.5 which would use both. The re-using of the Athlon brand across platform revisions can make questions like this a little confusing.

The first Phenom IIs were AM2+, but the rest were AM3. Only ones in an AM3 socket had both DDR2 and DDR3 controllers.

The poster may well have an AM3 processor without realising it, of course. But an AM2 processor will definitely not work in an AM3+ socket.

7850 = Phenom 1 (AM2+)
only AM3 and AM3+ CPUs will work on AM3+ motherboards,
while AM2+ motherboards can support AM2, AM2+ and AM3 CPUs (not AM3+ CPUs)

all Phenoms II and higher (apart from the early models like the 920 and 940) are AM3, also any Athlon II is AM3.

the AM3+ board has a Semperon 145 at 2.8Ghz

just my backup for when my main computer goes down so....

if your are lucky, and your motherboard support core unlocking, you could transform this sempron into a Athlon II X2... which is faster than the 7850, but you would need to test to see if it's stable...
