as the title says will my Old AM2+ socket fit a newer AM3+ board? I got a newer board with amd's version of a celeron processor it it and was wondering if i can swap my AMD athelon 2x black edition into it....so i can use DDR3 ram
No.
Modern processors have the memory controller built in. An AM2+ processor does not have a DDR3 memory controller, so it will not work in an AM3+ board.
Depends on the exact processor. Some Phenom IIs(and derivatives which are under the Athlon brand) have both a DDR2 and DDR3 memory controller, like my 1090T.
the CPU is a AMD Athlon 7850 Dual Core 2.8hrz Black edition
That cpu is rather slow. What cpu did your new board come with?
the AM3+ board has a Semperon 145 at 2.8Ghz
just my backup for when my main computer goes down so....
