Ran across an article that listed three Z97 motherboards that will support Broadwell so now I'm wondering if it'll just be those three or any Z97 board will be compatible.

I would imagine most of the motherboards from popular motherboard manufacturers like Asus, Gigabyte, MSI etc would be updated :)

It depends on the mobo maker. Z87 can be broadwell compatible too for example.

I thought that z87 would not be compatible with Broadwell because of the chip having a different number of pins or something.

So the z87 & z97 would be compatible with Haswell & Haswell Refresh, but Broadwell would be limited to z97 and whatever new chipset comes out for it.

Z87 and Z97 are identical.

The 100 series chipsets are for Skylake(And shrink) only.

The difference with Broadwell is completely unrelated to the chipset.

Any mobo maker can implement this. Most already did on 8 series boards. This is something mobo makers have known for atleast a year.
